====== Chocolate Pie ====== I think this is a nytimes recipe that someone transcribed on reddit, or something like that. In any case this is a re-transcription of a screenshot of two reddit comments. Delicious pie for when I'm craving that old silk instant chocolate pie box mix from my childhood. ===== Ingredients ===== Crust: * 2c / 270g oreo crumbs (about 24 oreos, but I prefer to import no name chocolate crumbs from canada) * 4T / 57g butter, melted * 1/2 t kosher salt Custard: * 1/2 c / 100g sugar * 3T cornstarch * 2T cocoa powder * 3/4 t kosher salt * 3c / 720mL whole milk * 6 egg yolks * 8oz / 225g semisweet bar chocolate, finely chopped * 2T butter, cubed * 1t vanilla Topping: * 1c / 240mL heavy cream * 1T powdered sugar * crumb garnish ===== Directions ===== - heat oven to 350F and turn oreos to crumbs, if needed - mix butter into crumbs until evenly moistened (food processor helps, especially if making the crumbs yourself) - press crumbs into bottom and sides of 9" pie dish, bake until set, about 12min, cool - prepare a fine mesh sieve over a medium bowl - in a medium saucepan, whisk sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, and salt - pour in a little milk and which to smooth paste, add remaining milk gradually to mix evenly - whisk in egg yolks - cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until it thickens and comes to a low boil, about 8-9min - cook and stir 1min more then pour through sieve, discard any solids - stir in chocolate, butter, and vanilla, let stand 1min to melt, then stir until smooth - pour custard into crust, let cool slightly, cover surface with plastic wrap and chill until firm, at least 6hr - to serve, whip cream and powdered sugar to soft peaks and top pie originally submitted by jes_p on Mar 28, 2025 {{tag>jes_p}}
